    "
Road safety campaigners said that the Lothians was matching a UK-wide trend for traffic deaths which has seen pedestrians and cyclists prove particularly vulnerable.

  4. The comments here are sadly predictable. Road deaths are caused by cyclists riding recklessly (which it would appear includes avoiding potholes); pedestrians reading Facebook on their phones; pedestrians and cyclists not having insurance; too many cyclists meaning you’ve got to watch out for them and not pedestrians; speed bumps; 20mph zones meaning drivers aren’t paying attention; too many signs… Never, not once, the fault of the driver.

The most crass comment is probably this one:

“Is it time to force cyclists and pedestrians to have insurance? The lack of throught that both these groups display when using roads is frightening and its no surprise that so many of them end up under a vehicle, leaving the driver to pick up the bill for their carelessness.”

I wonder if 'drivers' will need separate insurance for when they are pedestrians?

I don't think these who comment on the EEN are necessarily representative of the whole of the driving/general population.

One look at the comments on most articles does seem to indicate a tendancy towards being a buch of brainless reactionary violent morons.

Either that or we are all doomed!

  12. It's why I stopped posting on the comments sections - you soon realise that they're all 'at it', and presumably think themselves very big and clever because they like totally pwned someone on the internet.

You'd have to include Neil Greig among the trolls.

no-one is quite sure why it’s happening

Its quite clear why its happening, Neil.

The legal consequences for killing vulnerable road users are largely trivial, unless you've been drinking.

  14. Have to love his comment as well about cyclists, "This is probably happening because there are more cyclists." Don't need to read much between the lines to see what he means is, "Cyclists die. Meh."

Given that he has just started to post again, and someone with the very same style has just returned to work (from a period in the 'Stan) and started posting here, I have a pretty good idea who Alternative (High Octane) Fuel Head is.

My particular favourite was that at 20mph motorists get bored because everything is so slow so lose concentration, whereas if everything is happening at 40mph it;s much more chaotic so you remain more alert.....

    Faultless logic.

There is one sensible comment in there:

Logie88: The numbers are so low that it is not sensible to see any trend in them
