Forgot to say - said blue scrap lorry was driven very considerately towards me - held back until safe and very wide overtake - so signs weren't being used to excuse poor driving.

Not pleased with the snidey inference on the back of Sainsburys delivery lorries. Spotted one in Edinburgh yesterday

I would have no problem with that message if the vast majority of cycling provision in the UK did not encourage that behaviour...

Or that more often than not folk are killed by trucks turning over them not by the cyclist putting themselves in harms way.

Perhaps there's a corresponding message in the cab.

Today being Wednesday meant the West of Edinburgh was awash with bin lorries doing their thing.
This one caught my eye - it being so big I couldn't pass it

Have to admit I only spotted it after a minute of waiting behind it.
At the next junction, there was some kind of audio meesage about staying back because the vehicle was turnng but I couldn't really hear it over the engine & background noise. The driver wasn't indicating at the time of the noise so I was pondering over what set it off.

Maybe we should wear jerseys with back prints issuing instructions to cars? Do not pass within 1.5 meters? Cars stay back?

Looks like I was seeing one of these in action.
"The system warns approaching traffic with an illuminated sign, and sensors trigger an audible message to caution cyclists and alert the driver of any undertaking. In addition, video images all around the lorry are relayed to the cab. You can see the combined system in action here.
Two such CEC bin lorries are already in operation, with ten of a further 17 coming into service shortly"

I saw a van (I can't remember the company name) parked on Leamington Terrace the other week which had not one, but two Cyclists Stay Back type stickers on the back and a notice to pedestrians on the side which read something along the lines of "Do not walk near this van at any time." Needless to say, I walked by it very closely.

I do hope those new bin lorries' cab cams are recording, not just monitoring, to separate the bike-was-undertaking sideswipes from the truck-was-overtaking sideswipes..

@Stickman yes, if not that sticker then very similar. At least the van that I saw was parked appropriately on the road. What they hope to achieve by using such stickers I really don't know, especially the "at any time" aspect?!

Are 'Cyclists Stay Back' stickers more or less effective than those diamond shaped 'Baby On Board' stickers that parents like to display in the rear windows of the familymobiles?
(Anecdotally I find the 'Baby On Board' brigade to be disproportionately prone to close passes and stupid overtakes at pinch points. But then I'm only a cyclist IN THE WAY, what do I know?).

I saw two on Wednesday, one on the back of an LRT bus saying don't pass on the left despite all cycle lanes directing you to do just that, and one on some other lorry I don't remember, with a "pass with caution" message and an angry red cross on the left side and a friendly green tickmark on the right.
TfL has banned its vehicles from using these sorts of stickers

I've just seen a yellow sticker on the back of a "specialist logistics" lorry. It says
IF YOU CAN'T SEE MY MIRRORS
I CAN'T SEE YOU!Seems a lot more helpful than the "stay back" stickers.
