Mine, appropriately enough, was my first ever memory of cycling.

I nearly didn't join the board after the first ever post I read was from someone who thought sealskinz socks were cruel to seals..

Anyway my favourite interaction on here was when I thought Instography was having an argument with himself

    Mmm.

    Simon Parker's commission-rich wooden headphones?

Quite salutary to see that my post addresses something which has been improved!

re lack of lifts at haymarket. Even if I no longer have to struggle with child and childseat, it's nice to know this has improved. even if we have now twice struggled badly on stairs when platforms were changed at the last minute.

There should be a prize for the newest & oldest 1st post...

Looks like Chdot had sewn up the oldest 1st post prize. And Frenchy is leading the newest 1st thread with 1 year ago and the pedant prize to boot ;-)

Must be some newer members though...

@iwrats I thought we agreed you would not mention Simon Parker again? I loved when his 'nephew' came on and said you nasty CCE stop getting at my nice 'uncle' Simon.

Did I remember to suggest end of year prizes? I was going to. Started making a trophy too; the sallyhinch prize for the best use of dust-dry humour.

Rats, meant to post that as Instography.

@min, sealskinz socks, are cruel to seals. The membrane between the outer nylon and inner merino is pure seal skin? Oh wait no, it is a poly bag and the plastic in the oceans is harmful to all aquatic life.

i have six new but old school chrome bells, very nice ringer. As prizes, the bracket is too narrow for my fat bars. Six, cos I was asked to help myself to a bell and took a box thinking it was one hell but was six. Next PY or Xmas PY.. The bell provider was happy to move the bells on. The bells are kosher

I commented about the relatively low wear of disc brakes and the improvement to the ride that having swapped a knackered front suspension fork with a rigid fork had made to my increasingly hybridised MTB commuter in a rim versus disc brakes thread.

    the text for the link

IWRATS - what have you done!? If he comes back it's your fault. The only honourable solution then would be to follow his suggested route through the Hermitage.

I've been a member for five years but have only been commenting for four.

Mine was joining in about a stupid anti-cycling article.

As we're talking about awards what about the CCE Forum's finest hour? Organising the cycle on Roseburn?

By happenstance I stood at the top of that cliff yesterday. Made my innards tingle. Best he don't come back.

Hard to compete but the first POP will always stay with me. In the run up I was watching the HP feeder ride page, which stood at 40, and thinking (a) there's all those people who aren't on FB and (b) most people here are bringing family/friends.

And then when the 100+ of us set off (counted out by chdot), I realised that we alreayd had half the number we'd originally planned on.

Riding into the Meadows was better even than riding down the Royal Mile.

And yes, I do think CCE should have the credit.

Five years - I seem to have been nudged into posting by being quoted by Chdot http://citycyclingedinburgh.info/bbpress/topic.php?id=5091#post-54105

I then appear to have launched into POP stuff fairly shortly thereafter ...

How did I not know about Simon Parker before today? I obviously need to backread more of the forum...

@unhurt, yep you should know about him. in Simon Parker World he is The Man.

In other Classic CCE bitching, we had a friendly approach from a mtb club forum thing who had an awful lot of rules, like I mean loads, for posting, the first one which had grammatical errors which we sledged into. Turned out they were just copied from some generic rules for Internet forums. They don't talk to us so much anymore.

    "In other Classic CCE bitching"

    NOT CCE's finest day.

Either the CCE grammar police have calmed down since or moved on to forums new.

"As we're talking about awards what about the CCE Forum's finest hour? Organising the cycle on Roseburn?"

This is where the there is potential for pedanticism.

It's a fine (and indefinable) line between 'organised by CCE' and 'organised by people who post here' - which obviously invites others to help/take part.

Perhaps a finer 15 minutes or so was the event at the West End organised by *no-one*, certainly not "by CCE".

It passed off with great dignity and suitable respect attended by a noticeable number of CCEers - and many others.

"And yes, I do think CCE should have the credit."

    Again, another grey area.

Wouldn't have happened without a significant number of CCEers being involved in many ways from shortly after the idea was floated elsewhere by Dave Brennan.

Don't think "finest", but CCE once officially had a (one person) delegation to the Transport Committee.

    Subject: Gogar Station Road

    Result: Definately!

I already mentioned Simon Parker within the last couple of months.

I had thought that my first post was in CCE Top Trumps, not the driving test thing.
