  2. Given the parking thread, this about riding in car parks (I don't know why I like riding through car parks, up and then down, but I do).

    Upwards
    Squeak from your tyres echoing
A car on some other level
    Distant though virtually above
    Interloping
    Roads may be for sharing
    But only cars park
    In a car park

    Downwards
Free rolling out of the wind
On the smoothest surface of the day
    Looking out for lights
    Reversing imminent
    180 degree turns
    Brake, apex, pedal
    No need for a ticket

    Then out
    Into the light
    The air
    The noise
    The potholes
It's a shock to the system
    And so much worse
    When the cars are moving

Look out for a giant poem on the Royal Mile tomorrow, at Sailors Arc

I didn't just make him up. Richard was a year or two older than me, and always seemed a step ahead in the bike stakes.

@mgj - that's my lunch hour sorted then.
