It is clearer today than it has been but the ice that is there is black and glassy.

@custard shouldn't have to hope the sun has melted it.

Tricycle so no issues.
More jeeps forgetting that they have the same brakes as everyone else. Some cars came down the big hill sideways and backwards so I stayed out of their way.
I got a mention on Facebook, a colleague's Friend commented that she had just seen a man on a tricycle going though Coatbridge. Colleague was able to fill in the details.
Noticed a passenger in a car taking photos this afternoon.
I'll probably go back to two wheels tomorrow, there isn't much ice left here.
Show about the history of trams on BBC 4 this evening.

Less other cyclists around this am - saw 3 others rather than usual dozen or so.
No ice, but wind was blustery, buffeting me from side to side. Still not given any more room by passing vehicles - makes tomorrows forecast all the more worrying.Posted 12 years ago # -
A colleague has a face covered in scab today after wiping out on Monday (ouch). I was very glad to have my new spiky tyres on. In fact some chap just behind me went splat following the same line / same speed as me round a corner from the new Chancelot Path to Warriston Path - I am guiltily thinking that he might have been thinking it was safe because I had just made it around the corner without incident. Oops.

Wasn't able to commute by bike today due to meetings. Same tomorrow. So went out for a wee ride this evening. Seemed quite toasty with 3 degrees.

Cold and calm this morning?
Posted 12 years ago # -
It was lovely this am!
Posted 12 years ago # -
Cold-ish. It felt like there might now be some salt on the sub-Crags path between the Scotsman/Dynamic Earth roundabout and the Dumbiedykes escape.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Cool and breezy, but a much reduced sort of breeze. Nice not to be worrying for hidden patches of ice.

Tractor and Coxwain today nice and sedate roll in.

[Hangs head in shame]
Forgive me father for I have....
... taken the bus in all week, well except for yesterday when I got the train home after the closed the bridge.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Only my second one on the bike this week, cold, and I had to sprint* for the up the hill to Falkirk high to make the train which didn't feel at all nice. Made it though :-)
Now awaiting the promised snow.....*Sprint in this case (Surly LHT on 26x1.75 marathon spikes) meaning the usual lung busting/thigh hurting effort but without the expected speed increase :-( It meanders along happily enough but speed is not an option...

Supposed to dip below zero once the sun sets so watch out for frost and ice this evening...
Posted 12 years ago # -
May go out for a ride this lunchtime to make the most of this quiet weather and catch up on miles.

no bike today
my fall on the ice and then fall in the wind yesterday has left my body somewhat battered
I had an inmpressive lump on one of my skinned knees and it was very stiff.
so no bike.
the bus journey home was boring!Posted 12 years ago # -
Oh custard sorry to hear that, hope you and the wheels heal quickly.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Nasty, Custard. Get better soon.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Arnica is good for lumps and bumps. Hope you are back to normal soon.

Hot bath and a good wine is the best for post-battering soreness, in my Humbledore.
First mini-commute on the newly fixulated racer today.
I shouldn't really have taken it out but I reckon the last couple of days of rain and lack of night frost means the salt levels today will be low and since the roads were dry, little would spring up even if not, and as a last resort it was only the ~1.5 mile leg of the day's travel so I could push her home easy enough.
I used to find that bike moderately comfortable, so I presume I will again once I become reaccustomed to drop bars.

Yeah sorry to hear that Custard, hope the bike(s) weren't damaged!
I'm with Uberuce, roasting hot bath and the alcoholic tipple of your choice (apparently W Churchill favoured a nice malt) is good for easing out bumps and scrapes.Posted 12 years ago # -
anyone else find the roads greasy today?
Posted 12 years ago # -
Lots of oil and diesely looking stuff floating on the surface it seemed to me.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Yeah I found the roads a bit slippy, I put it down to the rubbish tyres but they might just have been more greasy than normal.
Posted 12 years ago # -
Wee bit of frost on the roads this morning; enough to make me wish I had Wintersaurus, but given how dry yesterday was it nothing careful riding couldn't cope with.
The few bits of water I could see on my dry route were well frozen, so persons who do the more aqueous paths might want to play it canny.

Yes, it was pretty icy this am, particularly out of town. Most is dry frosty stuff but some is slippy so be careful. Either no gritting was carried out (no crunch perceived) or it is ineffective on dry frost. The ice means that a half metre perimeter on the road is out of bounds. Of course most motorists don't realise this :(
Motorist motto: impatience before safety

Thirded. I stuck to main roads, and given it was dry went with the more surefooted CX-tyred Cotic. Still lingering frost, and low puddles iced over. Also, as with amir, found drivers to be remarkably impatient this morning - got tailgated at least half a dozen times. Slightly offputting and unsettling in those conditions...
